Discover Sri Kumar Mess

Sri Kumar Mess in Coimbatore, located at No.12, Thondamuthur Road, Vadavalli, Tamil Nadu, is one of those hidden gems that locals swear by. Known for its hearty, homestyle South Indian meals, this eatery has built a reputation for serving delicious, no-frills food that feels both authentic and comforting. Whether you're a local or a first-time visitor, stepping into Sri Kumar Mess feels like stepping into a cozy home kitchen, where you can expect to be treated to meals that are as flavorful as they are satisfying.

The menu at Sri Kumar Mess is straightforward but packed with mouthwatering options that highlight the best of South Indian cuisine. From classic dosas and idlis to hearty sambar rice and curd rice, the choices are designed to cater to every palate. What sets this restaurant apart from many others is its consistent quality, fresh ingredients, and the warmth with which the food is served.

One of the standout dishes here is the traditional Sambar Rice, which has a perfect balance of spices. The tangy tamarind-based sambar pairs beautifully with the steamed rice, making it a popular choice for lunch or dinner. The Rasam here is another dish worth trying, with its zesty, peppery flavor that cleanses your palate after every bite. It's the kind of dish that sticks with you long after you've finished eating.

If you're in the mood for something light, the Idli and Vada are always a safe bet. Soft, fluffy idlis with a side of spicy chutneys are perfect for breakfast or a quick snack. The Medu Vada, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, complements the idlis perfectly and is a favorite among regulars. The chutneys - coconut, tomato, and a spicy green variety - are made fresh and enhance the taste of each dish.

The Dosa, crispy and golden brown, is another beloved option at Sri Kumar Mess. The dosa is served with an assortment of chutneys and a bowl of sambar, making it a satisfying meal in itself. Whether you choose the traditional plain dosa or opt for one filled with masala, the taste will remind you of the simplicity and authenticity of Indian street food.

For those craving a heavier meal, Sri Kumar Mess offers a range of rice-based dishes. The Curd Rice here is incredibly popular, served with a tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves, and a generous sprinkle of fried green chilies. It’s the perfect way to cool off after a spicy meal.

The best part about dining at Sri Kumar Mess is the experience of eating fresh, homemade food at reasonable prices. The portions are generous, ensuring you get great value for your money. What truly makes this place stand out is its no-fuss atmosphere. There are no frills or gimmicks here-just honest, delicious food made with love.

A major draw for visitors is the sheer comfort and familiarity of the food. Many patrons say that eating here feels like being at a friend's house. The friendly staff adds to the warm, welcoming vibe of the place, making every meal feel like a special occasion.

In terms of location, Sri Kumar Mess is easily accessible for those traveling in and around the Vadavalli area. Whether you're stopping by after a long day of work or popping in for a quick meal on the way home, the restaurant’s location is convenient for locals and visitors alike.

  • Small is Beautiful The first thing you order is idli. It's soft and ready to eat. This will feed your hungry stomach while you translate the menu. Varieties of Dosa, Kollikattai, varieties of Rice. I'm having Brocolli dosa (a first) as I type this (which I shouldn't, but will end soon)... Healthy, home like food, reasonable pricing, humble outlet. This nation is defined by small caring places like these. ????????

  • Homely type food which will not harm. Health food at reasonable prices. I had visited across 4 days and I am impressed with the quality, variety and quantity of food. Unique village blend of food made of Ragi, Kambu or just plain. Had Chola dosai, Ragi Chinna Vengaya Utthappam, Carrot Uthappam, Vazhapoo Adai with Avial which was simple and fulfilling. The owner also is down to earth and serves with humbleness. I had lunch and the rice was Ponni which I had with paruppu Keerai and Uralakezhangu. All - sambar, rasam and curd were good. Unlike the watery curd they serve in most hotels, the curd was good here. Price was Rs 95 for full meals! Most of the tiffen items, I become full with 2 items and I never had to pay more than 100 only. Carrot Uthappan was Rs.50 and post that could not have a morsel more.

  • Panju Pola Idli Veedu Dosa — after a long time, I’m writing a restaurant review wholeheartedly, with gratitude. I would definitely recommend this place over every other restaurant in town when taste matters. This one is not for convenience, but for pure taste!

  • Being grown in a city, I was not knowing the authentic food varieties and the names of the millets, grains, etc. Really felt satisfied money wise and taste wise and heard from my friend that these all are home made. Felt special that i got to try these all on my birthday. Had Mappilai samba dosa and ragi dosa for breakfast and again told my friend to go to the same hotel where we had the breakfast!!! The unlimited meals were so good, and sambar was highlight for a person who loves sambar very much. manathakkali soup was served in the starting of the lunch and the payasam was a proper closure for this one. Recommending to try this once for sure!!!
